Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)
Oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) is a condition marked by two distinct sets of challenges: aggressiveness and a proclivity to intentionally bother and irritate others. It's not uncommon for a diagnosis of ADHD to coexist with a diagnosis of ODD, with over 3 million cases diagnosed in the US each year. The issues presented by children with ODD are characterized by a consistent pattern of negativistic, hostile, and defiant behavior lasting at least six months. Symptoms associated with an ODD diagnosis may include frequently losing temper, engaging in arguments with adults, actively defying or refusing to comply with adult requests or rules, deliberately annoying people, blaming others for mistakes or misbehavior, being touchy or easily annoyed by others, frequently experiencing anger and resentment, and displaying spiteful and vindictive behaviors.
Treatment
Following an ODD diagnosis, the next step involves enhancing your and your child's quality of life. We recognize that each child with an ODD diagnosis requires unique treatment. Our ODD treatment services provide specialized solutions to assist you or your loved one in improving their quality of life.
At Pediatric Therapy Support, we offer high-quality, personalized treatment plans to address the challenges associated with ODD and related disorders. The treatment approach we employ is ABA (applied behavior analysis) therapy, which systematically applies the principles of learning theory to modify behaviors. The overarching goal of ABA therapy is to increase adaptive skills and replacement behaviors while concentrating on interventions to reduce maladaptive behaviors. The systematic treatment planning approach involves understanding how behavior functions, how it is influenced by the environment, and how learning occurs. Considering these elements is essential to formulating a treatment plan aimed at behavior modification. Our treatment focuses on enhancing language abilities, developing communication skills, improving attention, nurturing social skills, and mitigating problem behaviors.
